One of the biggest stories of the year…
Just three months ago, Virginia native, Oliver Anthony, was simply a mere nobody. Other than his close friends and family (and maybe the cashier at his local convenience store) you could’ve asked a million people across the States and his name would’ve meant absolutely nothing.
Well, that all changed when he released the mega-viral, hit song, “Rich Men North Of Richmond,” on @wvradio’s YouTube account, where it has now amassed over 80 million views on the video platform alone since August.
While the song resonated with people of all backgrounds, it specifically struck a chord with conservatives, being featured on the first ever Republican presidential debate on Fox News.
After becoming aware that both the candidates and viewers were played his song, Anthony released a statement video clarifying that he doesn’t belong to either political party:
“It was funny seeing my song in the presidential debate, because it’s like… I wrote that song about those people. So for them to have to sit there and listen to that, that cracks me up.
It was funny kind of seeing their response to it. That song has nothing to do with Joe Biden, ya know? It’s a lot bigger than Joe Biden. That song was written about the people on that stage…not just them, but definitely them.”
Well, this past weekend, Oliver performed at the Big River Outdoors Campground in Irondale, Missouri, and right after he sang the first line of his song, “I’ve Got to Get Sober,” he pauses as a “Fu*k Joe Biden” chant breaks out in the crowd.
He then tells his fans; “y’all get it out of your system one good time” before joining in on the guitar.
After the crowd gets louder and louder, Anthony says: “I hate to say it but y’all are a little old for him.”
