The show that keeps on giving.
Back on May 10 and 11, the Turnpike Troubadours played back-to-back sold-out shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Rising indie star, Wyatt Flores, opened for the band on the second night, performing popular tracks such as “Losing Sleep,” “Milwaukee” and “Please Don’t Go.”
While in Colorado, Flores made the most of the experience not only shooting a stellar cover of Tyler Childers’ “Shake the Frost” with Sierra Hull but also recording an unplugged bluegrass version of “Milwaukee,” “Running Out of Time” and Turnpike Troubadours’ “Kansas City Southern.”
The three-song “Trail Mix Session” was uploaded on Red Rock’s YouTube channel today and featured some commentary from Flores about his music between songs.
In between “Running Out of Time” and “Milwaukee,” Flores touched on his sound and keeping it as true to himself as possible,
“I’ve been very vocal about making sure that I get to play whatever style music I want to, so I don’t get trapped in a box.”
Between “Milwaukee” and “Kansas City Southern,” Flores shared the main goal he has when releasing music.
“The message that I’m after is to motivate people to live, and I hope that they get the motivation to look at their life and see what more they can do for themselves. It’s really all I’m after and to not take life for granted.”
Flores and Co. finished the session out with a stellar cover of “Kansas City Southern,” which appears on Turnpike’s debut album, Diamonds & Gasoline. The unplugged nature of the cover provides an incredible bluegrass spin on the underrated deep cut from the Oklahoma band.
