Didn’t take The Man in Black as much of an evening news guy, to be honest.
It seems like Theo Von has been on top of the world lately. Whether it’s interviewing major political figures like former president Donald Trump and Senator Bernie Sanders, talking with country stars such as The Red Clay Strays, Lainey Wilson and Luke Combs or walking out with Morgan Wallen before his concert, Von is without a doubt one of the biggest comedians and podcasters in the world today.
Yesterday, fresh off of the announcement of their new album, Reboot II, he had none other than Brooks & Dunn on his podcast. The duo talked about everything from Post Malone, the start of their careers and arguably most interestingly, the first time Ronnie Dunn met Johnny Cash.
When the trio were on the topic of The Man in Black, Von asked if they had ever met him and what he was like, and Dunn quickly replied by noting how reserved he was, “[He was] stoic and quiet by nature when you first meet him.”
Dunn then launched into a story about the first time he ever met Cash and his affinity for sitting down and watching the news, “There were two black leather recliners in front of this TV. He sits down and watches like CNN or whatever, and I sit in the next one. We’re just sitting there, and no one says anything… I didn’t know what to say to him because he didn’t talk.”
The silence was broken eventually, as Dunn recalls Cash saying, “You see these newsreels here; that’s a loop. You know I’m an addict. I used to sit and watch TV for days until those loops would end, then it would start a whole new cycle of news.”
Dunn finished the story by noting how Cash was essentially just explaining how the TV worked, “He’s explaining how TV to me through the eyes of being high.”
I don’t know about you, but I’d probably be more inclined to watch the news every night if I had Johnny Cash next to me explaining how it worked. At least I’d get some entertainment while hearing about the current election cycle.
