“My life was black and white, but she’s the painter.”
Cody Johnson, one of the biggest acts in country music at the moment, is back with the highly-anticipated follow-up to his highly-acclaimed double album, Human. The ‘Til You Can’t singer teased the song’s release on August 1st with this Instagram Reel:
While announcing the song’s release on his website, Johnson shared his personal favorite lyric and how it describes his marriage with his wife,
“My favorite lyric in ‘The Painter’ is ‘for every wall I built, she saw a canvas.’ If there’s anything that describes my marriage with my wife, Brandi, it’s that line. “And that’s why we’ve been together for 15 years.”
Later in the article, Johnson expressed how he hopes fans appreciate their loved ones while listening to the track.
“I hope my fans are encouraged to take the time to appreciate the people they have around them. The ones who make their life beautiful and bring all the beautiful colors to their world when it could just be black and white and dark. Remember them and tell them you love them.”
The Painter is the first single off of Johnson’s upcoming double album, Leather, which will contain 24 total tracks and is expected to arrive in November or December.
