Morgan Wallen has had himself one helluva year.
Back in July, “Last Night” surpassed “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus to become the #1 best selling song of the year and it has held that spot ever since.
According to @chartdata, the hit has now sold over 5 million total units. On top of that, it has now officially surpassed over 900 million on-demand streams in the States, close to becoming the first ever song to reach 1 billion in a single calendar year.
Not only did Last Night become the #1 longest running Country song in Hot 100 history back in May, it’s also the longest running #1 solo song in history, all-genre, on the Billboard chart since it began in 1958.
Remove the “solo” aspect and “Last Night” is now the second longest running No. 1 in the chart’s history, only behind a tie of “Despacito” and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s collaboration, “One Sweet Day.” If you weren’t aware, the Hot 100 chart combines all-genre U.S. streaming, radio airplay and sales data.
On top of all of THAT, it was also the most streamed song of the summer on Spotify in the U.S.
Overplayed? At this point, most definitely. But you can’t argue the massive impact and success it’s garnered, whether you hate it or love it.
