It’s been a busy year for Cody Jinks. Between touring with Eric Church on his Outsiders Revival Tour during the summer and picking up six new RIAA certifications in April, it’s been quite the year for the Must Be the Whiskey singer. Today, he is finally back with a brand new single, Outlaws and Mustangs.
Jinks took to Instagram on Wednesday with a cryptic Instagram post hinting at something coming on Oct. 20 and then officially announced the song’s release on Thursday.
Jinks pulls out all the stops here on Outlaws and Cowboys, employing doses of fiddle, steel and even a choir on the track. The inclusion of all of these elements makes the song feel incredibly dynamic while simultaneously being lyrically strong. Here, Jinks leans heavily into his outsider persona and notes how society doesn’t like people who pave their own paths in the first verse.
“Well, the world tears down all those who go astray
We pay a price for going our own way
Oh, and wisdom’s often born of our scars
And we find ourselves losing who we are”
The track isn’t without its glimmer of hope, however. In the chorus, he reminds the listener that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The final line of the chorus becomes a bit of an allusion to the “all roads lead back home” expression.
“The thing about outlaws and mustangs, they always come home”
There’s no release date for a new album. However, it’s done and ready to be released some time in November according to this Facebook post by Jinks back in July.
