Gabby Barrett has been quietly putting together a wildly successful career in country music. With her first two singles, I Hope and The Good Ones, going #1 and multi-platinum, many have wondered why Barrett hasn’t performed many duets with fellow country stars in the industry.
In a day where duets seem to be all the buzz in mainstream country, Barrett doesn’t have any traditional duets with any male country artists.
In an interview with Hannah Love, Barrett revealed that she doesn’t accept duet offers out of respect for her husband:
“There’s been large song opportunities that have come in for me to do or be a part of, and (that’s) between myself and my husband, I respect him a ton, and I listen to what he has to say, and I think he deserves that. The Bible talks about us doing that for our husbands. There have been songs that are just not appropriate to sing wording-wise… that are really intimate.”
She later added, “If I’m singing with another man, is that going to make my husband uncomfortable? Probably. And I respect him and love him so much that I’m not going to jeopardize my marriage to do a duet with somebody. I care about this a lot more.”
It should come as no surprise if you follow Barrett on social media that her faith plays a large role in her career. She noted that many warned her about her faith potentially ruining her career; however, the I Hope singer says that she has been unwavering in her faith:
“I’m thankful for that in this industry. It would be so difficult if (my faith) was just like a wavering thing all the time. But he’s given me the spirit, and it’s really helped me to be very firm, no matter what the push is from outside industry and outside people.”
The 23-year-old singer finished by saying, “I don’t know how long I’ll be doing music for, but I’m just here for the ride that God’s kind of taking us on and trying to be wise with what he gives.”
