Pass the bottle.
Like him or not, Morgan Wallen is on top of the world right now. His single “Last Night” was the best streaming song, regardless of genre, on multiple platforms this year, his “One Thing At A Time” Tour was by far the highest grossing country tour of the year, and it seems like every day he’s racking up new RIAA certifications.
All that means you, and probably everyone you know, has heard Wallen’s music, and more specifically his latest album One Thing At A Time. If you’ve given the album a listen you might’ve noticed a familiar theme running throughout the record: alcohol.
Whiskey, beer, and drinking in general have always been a staple of country music, but Wallen takes it to another level. I was recently listening to his latest album, and the thought crossed my mind: “If I was drinking every time he talked about it, I’d be dead right now.”
Well, I decided to find out. I went through the lyrics of every track from Wallen’s One Thing At A Time album and counted every time he mentioned alcohol, drinking, or bars. The number?
190.
It is important to point out that the album is a massive 36 songs, and some of the references are used in the chorus, which will lead to them being repeated multiple times throughout. Still, that figures out to alcohol being referenced five times a song. Here’s the breakdown on some of the words he uses the most:
- Whiskey/Bourbon: 46 times
- Drunk/Drink: 36 times
- Bar: 24 times
- Beer/Can: 21 times
- Pour: 14 times
- Bottle/Fifth: 13 times
Other popular uses included wine, jack, liquor, and shot.
If you’re wondering which song had the most, it was (unsurprisingly) “Whiskey Friends,” with 20 mentions. Other top performers included “Wine Into Water” and “I Deserve A Drink,” which, duh. Only one song on the entire record does not mention drinking once. That song? “‘98 Braves.”
If you’re feeling up to the task, this idea makes for a great drinking game for when you and your boys are sitting around bored on a Friday night. Throw Wallen on the stereo, grab a bottle of something strong, and try not to black out in your boots.
