Someone forgot to turn on the autotune…
Though she hasn’t quite lived up to the popularity that came along with her debut single, “More Hearts Than Mine,” back in 2019, Ingrid Andress has had a pretty successful career. Being a 4x Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and Nashville Songwriter Award-winner, it’s not like Andress is without credentials.
With that being said, tonight at this year’s MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, Andress delivered what can only be described as one of, if not the worst National Anthem performances ever seen by a recording artist.
With some notably poor performances of the National Anthem, you can always chalk it up to the performer being nervous or simply missing a note or two, but with Andress’ performance tonight, I simply do not know what went wrong. Despite her track record of success over the years, she sounded closer to your drunk best friend at karaoke night after six cherry White Claws and four lemon drop shots than a Grammy-nominated recording artist.
It seems like Philadelphia Phillies’ star, Alec Bohm, couldn’t even contain himself from laughing while listening to Andress’ performance.
The internet, in typical fashion, was quick to make fun of the “Wishful Drinking” singer, crowning her performance as the worst rendition of the National Anthem and noting that she overtook Fergie’s equally horrific performance at the 2018 NBA All Star Game. In fact, the four trending phrases on X right now are “Awful,” “Ingrid Andress,” “#HomeRunDerby” an d “Star Spangled Banner.”

While, of course, these tweets are hilarious. You can’t help but feel at least a little bad for Andress. I’m sure that she wanted to see her name trending online after the performance, but not in this fashion. Regardless, the internet is going to do what the internet does best and remain undefeated.
