Two weeks after releasing the nostalgic track, Country Nights, Josh Abbott Band is back with another single. The Texas band, most famous for their red dirt style, slows down and reflects on their fathers’ impact in the emotional new song, My Dad and His Truck.
Frontman, Josh Abbott, took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce the song’s release. In the Instagram reel, he notes how big of a role his father had in his life.
“I was thinking that [the truck] and how hard he worked and the truck that he drove. And I decided to write a song about it… I hope you love it as much as I do, and it brings a tear to your eyes.”
My Dad and His Truck, written by Abbott, Matt McHinn and Neil Medley, is an emotional one recounting the lessons learned and the impact their fathers have had throughout the years. The bridge, in particular, is a tear-jerker that has Abbott pleading for one more day with his dad.
“Those bench seat conversations are the ones that I’ve been missin’. What I wouldn‘t give to just go back one more time to sit and listen.”
The track is sure to hit home for many, including band member, David Fralin, who recently lost his father. Fralin provides a beautiful piano intro to the song.
The band is also planning to release a video for the track featuring fan-submitted pictures and videos. It’s bound to be moving especially with Father’s Day approaching.
