Luke Bryan seems to be paying attention these days.
A creator on TikTok recently uploaded a video set out to determine the most popular country artist by comparing a group of four’s current monthly listeners on Spotify. As you would expect, Morgan Wallen, Zach Bryan and Luke Combs were all featured, as well as the “odd ball,” Luke Bryan himself.
While the TikTok user admits there’s other trends he could’ve followed to determine the artists’ popularity, he chose to strictly look at the numbers on the biggest music streaming platform there is. While Apple Music is still very popular, just edging out Amazon Music for second place, Spotify still has 12 million more paid monthly subscriptions in the United States. It’s also fair to point out that an artist’s monthly listeners on the streaming service platform update daily.
The user, whose handle is @notyourbuddy2, kicks off the video with a brief explanation as to what made him want to do a quick dive into these four artists’ streaming numbers, adding that he believes those four are the biggest that country music currently has to offer:
“I was having a conversation with a friend about Bailey Zimmerman and Koe Wetzel and Riley Green and it got me thinkin’… so I brought in these four guys, who in my opinion, are four of the biggest in the country music scene.”
He continues:
“Maybe not Luke Bryan, like he’s a little bit of an older head but you get it…. My initial guess would’ve been Wallen, Luke Combs, Zach Bryan, and then Luke Bryan really is an odd ball because like he’s more popular with the older crowd, I’m not sure where he kind of fits in.”
After he revealed that Zach Bryan was currently ahead of the other three in terms of monthly listeners at the time he created this video, I was curious to see what what his followers thought in the comments. And, of course, the first comment I saw was from none other than Luke Bryan himself:
“Well either way. Thanks for reporting truth on Spotify old guy. Odd ball. But I have done pretty damn good. Older head proud.”
The original creator ended up posting a followup video in response to Luke’s comment, adding that he’s a big fan and didn’t intend to hate on the 47 year-old country star:
“If it comes down to like fame and overall success, I would say there’s no doubt that Luke Bryan is the most successful.”
