Less than a month after confirming that his fourth studio album, I’m The Problem, is coming soon, Morgan Wallen is back again with another brand-new teaser.
Minutes ago, Wallen took to Instagram to tease the song, noting that it’s about his son in the caption, “Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be. And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it. Here is a clip, It’s called ‘Superman.'”
In the verse, the “Last Night” singer directly addresses his past mistakes, notably his incredibly viral arrests and subsequent mugshots. Here, Wallen toys with the idea of not only worrying about what his son will think about his mugshot being so public but also what he will think when he hears his past songs on the radio.
“One day you’re gonna see my mugshot
From a night when I got a little too drunk
Hear a song about a girl that I lost
From the times when I just wouldn’t grow up
And when you ain’t a kid no more
I hope you don’t think less of me
I tried to hide my fallen sword
But you’re gonna see”
In the chorus, the 31-year-old singer/songwriter touches on his struggles with alcohol and his self-destructive nature, noting that he’s trying to be the best dad he can be despite past shortcomings.
“Now and then that bottle’s my Kryptonite
Brings the Man of Steel down to his knees
Don’t always know my wrong from right
Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy
No, I don’t always save the day
But you know, for you, I’ll always try
I do the best I can but Superman
Still just a man sometimes“
Though not confirmed, it’s safe to assume that “Superman” will join the likes of “Lies, Lies Lies,” “Love Somebody,” and “Smile” on Wallen’s upcoming project, I’m The Problem, which looks to be another double album.
