Back in 2021, Riley Green surprised his crowd by bringing out Morgan Wallen to sing his certified double platinum, “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” at Whiskey Jam. This deeply sentimental tune, written by Green himself, is a favorite amongst his fanbase and has become a career-defining song for him as an artist.
Despite controversy surrounding Wallen at the time, he was the fastest growing and highest streaming country singer of that year. Green was one of many big-name artists such as Eric Church and Luke Bryan to bring the Wallen out on stage to perform with them during that summer and fall, providing their audiences with the opportunity to hear some of Wallen’s chart-topping smash hits.
This is an entertaining performance and you can hear the excitement from the crowd to see Wallen perform, especially since his massive new record, Dangerous, had become the biggest album in country music at the time. On top of this, Riley Green had been steadily growing due to his successful debut album, Different Round Here, and was one of the most popular new artists in the genre.
Green leads the performance with Wallen providing his signature twang in the background. Vocally, the two young country stars pair extremely well and honestly, it’s just fun to see these two on stage singing together.
Riley Green’s sophomore album, This Ain’t My Last Rodeo, featuring his re-imagined version of Different Round Here with Luke Combs, is out now.
