The song is still resonating with folks…
While Donald Trump was addressing a crowd during his campaign stop in Virginia yesterday, “Rich Men North Of Richmond,” the viral hit song from Oliver Anthony, played over the speakers and the crowd absolutely loved it.
The song, which lashes out at wealthy politicians in D.C. and has racked up almost 70 million views on Youtube and over 65 million streams on Spotify alone, has become a huge hit with conservatives, despite Oliver admitting he doesn’t belong to either side, politically.
In fact, the first Republican presidential debate on Fox News opened the event by playing his song for the candidates and its viewers and Anthony responded, saying this:
“It was funny seeing my song in the presidential debate, because it’s like… I wrote that song about those people. So for them to have to sit there and listen to that, that cracks me up.
It was funny kind of seeing their response to it. That song has nothing to do with Joe Biden, ya know? It’s a lot bigger than Joe Biden. That song was written about the people on that stage…not just them, but definitely them.”
Despite his resistance to both parties, the song is still beloved by regular middle-class conservatives, and you can see that here in the video:
While it appears Trump may not know the words to the song himself, he paused and briefly danced to the let the crowd sing along. Many comments on the TikTok post have suggested that Trump is exactly the type of person the song was written about, while others seem to enjoy the video, praising Trump and his team for playing the song during his campaign stop.
