Didn’t think this song could get any better.
During a recent trip to New York City, Cleto Cordero and the boys of Flatland Cavalry stopped by the Track Star studio to give a four-song acoustic performance that included three originals, as well as an incredible cover of Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 hit, “Landslide.”
While Kaitlin Butts made a short appearance to perform her and the band’s beautiful duet, “Mornings With You,” off their most recent record, “Wandering Star,” it was the Fleetwood Mac cover that really made this performance stand out.
The song was first released from Fleetwood’s self-titled debut album but it wasn’t until 23 years later when the band decided to release the live version as a single. Both the Dixie Chicks and The Smashing Pumpkins later released their own versions, which helped the song gain even more popularity as both renditions sold fairly well. The Dixie Chicks’ cover went on to top Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart in 2002, just weeks before the trio’s decline after criticizing then president, George W. Bush. It is currently certified double platinum by the RIAA
Accompanied by only an acoustic guitar, Cleto’s silky-smooth vocals give the 49 year-old song new life, and another reason to listen to it 500 more times. I’m fully convinced that if Flatland released a studio version, it would do NUMBERS. Check out their cover of “Landslide,” as well as the entire sessions video here:
