Despite battling an illness, Koe Wetzel powered through a private show with Audacy at Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville last night. At the concert, the “High Road” singer not only confirmed that a new album is currently being recorded but also debuted a brand new song, seemingly titled, “Surrounded.”
Early in the show, Wetzel said, “I’ve been under the weather the last couple of days, so if I sound like sh*t, it won’t be different than any other night. We are excited to be here. Thank all of y’all for coming out and listening to some Texas music. Here lately, it’s been some Nashville music. We’re back in Nashville this week recording a new record, so we’re gonna play y’all some new music tonight.”
The Texas native would later debut “Surrounded,” and it sounds like another hit. Having a similar feel to his latest album, 9 Lives, the teaser begins with Wetzel lamenting about a failed relationship.
“People say I’m losing my sh*t
‘Cause I ain’t got rid of yours yet
From the drugs by the sand
The champagne we won’t drink
And the ring that I’ll sure never give
Everywhere I turn in this Godforsaken place
Maybe I deserve to feel a little more pain”
The chorus feels like classic Koe with him playing with the dichotomy of feeling alone despite being surrounded by the memories of his ex.
“I can’t run out, I can’t fight it
I can’t think ’cause my head’s so clouded
Every morning, every night is
All alone but the room feels crowded
Should’ve took all the mirrors you left
‘Cause I’m drunk and I can’t be around it
Hands up, we’ve got this house surrounded
And there’s nothing I can do about it”
As of now, “Surrounded” has no release date. Listen here:
