On Monday, Jan. 22, news broke that Chris Young was arrested outside of DawgHouse Saloon in Nashville after he allegedly assaulted a Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent.
In the original report by a responding officer, he said Young “put his hands out to stop me from leaving the bar and struck me on the shoulder.” It was reported that it took two officers to restrain Young.
Young was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault of an officer. He was released early Tuesday morning from the Metro jail.
However, in light of new footage released of the altercation, the story becomes a bit more interesting for the Tomorrow singer.
In the surveillance video, Young is shown standing calmly in the bar, reportedly asking why they took his ID before attempting to get the officer’s attention by placing his hand on the officer’s chest. In response, the officer quickly shoved Young in the chest forcefully, knocking him backwards into a chair.
According to the affidavit, the agent pushed Young “to create distance” and then bystanders got between the two and began “yelling and screaming” to break it up. Another agent apparently tried to have a conversation with Young, who reportedly began walking backward and not complying with direct orders.
However, this video paints a completely different picture of the altercation. Though the context of the altercation is still not completely known due to the length of the clip, it appears that Young was not acting aggressively towards the officer at all.
Young’s new album, Young Love & Saturday Nights, releases on March 22.
