Every campfire needs a guitar.
Riley Green recently added his edition to CMT’s ongoing series of acoustic Campfire Sessions. Among the songs played was a new cut of one of his most popular tracks, “Different ‘Round Here.”
One of the coolest parts of the Campfire Sessions is seeing artists put new spins on some of their biggest hits, and Green does exactly that here. He dropped the original instrumental intro and added an acapella chorus instead. For a song with such an iconic first line of the chorus (“Brave is 18 wearing army green”), this was a great choice.
This performance brings a more classic country sound to the song than the original studio recording. There is a very present steel throughout the track that adds some depth to the production.
Unlike manyother artists, Green brought a full five man band to his campfire performance, and it allowed him to make the creative changes that differentiated this cut.
This isn’t the first alternate version of “Different ‘Round Here” we’ve seen. Last May Green released a rendition of the song featuring Luke Combs, and included the track on his Ain’t My Last Rodeo album later in the year.
Other songs in the full performance included “Hell of a Way To Go” and “Damn Country Music.”
These Campfire Sessions have become a great series allowing artists to get outside of the box and add new twists to some of their top songs. Some of the notable sessions have included Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, and Ian Munsick.
