Last night, the White House continued its 223 year tradition with its annual Fourth of July celebration on the National Mall. Dating way back to 1801 when Thomas Jefferson was in the Oval Office, the White House lawn has hosted some sort of reception featuring music, food and parades every year since.
With much anticipation, Kentucky native Tyler Childers was responsible for the live music portion of the event this go around. Takin’ the stage alongside his longtime band, The Food Stamps, the 33 year-old singer/songwriter performed a four song set that featured the old Appalachian instrumental, “Cluck Old Hen,” as well as performances of “Honky Tonk Flame,” “House Fire” and “Universal Sound.”
While this was Childers’ first time ever performing at the White House, he is surely no stranger to performing for elected officials. Just refer back to December of last year when he took center stage at Kentucky Governor, Andy Beshear’s, Inauguration Ceremony to perform the aforementioned “Universal Sound,” off his most popular album to date, “Purgatory.”
