Wyatt Flores has taken the indie country scene by storm over the past year. With hits such as “Please Don’t Go,” “Break My Bones” and “Losing Sleep,” the Oklahoman singer/songwriter has quickly become one of the premier independent artists today.
In February, Flores canceled multiple shows on his Life Lessons tour, citing his mental health as the reason. The Milwaukee singer opened up in an Instagram post, saying, “The truth is, I struggle with my sense of worth and sometimes feel like I’m only loved because of the guitar that sits in my hands.”
Flores took the month of February to focus on himself and get back on track. He updated fans in an Instagram post on March 7, thanking them, saying that he’s doing much better and shared a brand new song, “Devil.”
In the post, he said, “I’ve been doing some work and getting on a better track and am doing very well having a life outside of music these last couple of weeks. I’d also like to thank every person that’s told me about their struggles and what they’re going through for not making me feel so alone through all this. I want yall to know I’m ok and want to thank yall for reaching out.“
Today, Flores teased another brand-new song, “Wish I Could Stay,” and it sounds like another hit. The track very well might be the most traditional song he has teased yet, filled with some great walk-down chord transitions, nice inclusions of 7 chords and, in typical Flores fashion, some fantastic lyrics such as, “Here in your arms, I feel so alive. I’ve never been so scared to die.”
In the opening of the video, Flores noted, “There was one point in last year where I was completely at peace, and I wasn’t worried about anything but being right there in that moment. And I wrote a song about it.”
He also added in the Instagram caption, “It’s a simple song about appreciating the simple moments of life, which is something I’m working on doing more of these days. This song has taken on a few different meanings for me recently and I hope y’all find something in it for yourselves.”
I think I speak for everyone in the country music community when I say that I am thrilled to see that Wyatt is doing better and sharing new music again; the independent scene is a much better place with him in it.
“Wish I Could Stay” currently does not have a release date.
