We need a cover album ASAP.
It’s no secret (or at least it shouldn’t be anyway), that Zach Top is emerging himself as one of the biggest country artists in the genre. While Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan overwhelmingly dominate streaming numbers, Top is bringing back that traditional 80’s and 90’s sound country music fans clearly still crave, and doing it extremely well I might add.
While his original music, especially the songs from his recent sophomore studio album, “Cold Beer & Country Music,” are nothing short of incredible, the man does every artist before him justice when he adds his smooth and twangy vocals into the mix. From his acoustic covers of George Strait’s “I Can Still Make Cheyenne” and “Nobody In His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her” (you can watch that here), to his live performance of Chris Stapleton’s “Nobody To Blame,” Top just doesn’t miss.
And once again, I did a little deep dive and found an old video of the “27 year-old “Use Me” singer performing an acoustic cover of Joe Nichols’ “Brokenheartsville” from all the way back in 2018.
Although Top is known for covering songs out of the 80’s and 90’s, the 27 year-old songwriter clearly has no boundaries when it comes to singing country classics from any era. “Brokenheartsville” was written by Donny Kees, Blake Mevis, Randy Boudreaux, and Clint Daniels and was released in late 2002 as the second single off Nichols’ sophomore album, “Man With A Memory.” It went on to become his first-ever No. 1 hit and is still one of his most popular songs to date.
While this might not be the most exciting cover or performance video that Top has uploaded to social media, it’s definitely worth watching. Hell, even Joe Nichols himself left a little comment on our Instagram post. Check it out for yourself here:
