Football and country music. Name a better combo.
On Saturday Randall King performed the national anthem at the Houston Texans playoff game at NRG Stadium against the Cleveland Browns.
Some viewers were disappointed that the performance was not included on the game’s NBC broadcast, but King later posted a video to his Instagram of the song for his fans to check out.
King traded in his usual cowboy hat and button down for a personalized blue home Texans jersey with his last name on the back. The “Mirror, Mirror” singer showed off some photos from the sidelines to his Instagram.
King, a native of Hereford, Texas and a noted fan of Houston sports, has been one of the hottest names bubbling up in recent years, particularly on the Texas country scene. He has been busy in the studio, releasing six singles last year including “Burns Like Her,” one of his most streamed songs to date.
Singing the anthem at such a high profile event is a massive opportunity for King to grow his name and gain exposure to new audiences. The timing is also perfect as Randall is set to release his third album “Into the Neon” January 26th.
Although difficult to verify, the performance was almost certainly the largest crowd King has ever sung in front of, with an announced attendance of 71,946. King’s Texans winning the game handily, 45-14, must have only added to his enjoyment of a memorable opportunity.
