Who doesn’t love a good surprise?

Randall King, one of the hottest up and comers out of the Texas country scene, surprised everyone Friday with his new single Burns Like Her. King announced the drop in an Instagram post Thursday afternoon, just hours before the song released.

With writing credits from Adam and Greylan James, as well as Mikey Reaves, the song focuses on the kind of love that hurts so good you just can’t get enough of it. Many of us have felt that feeling at some time or another, and King puts it into words in the first lines of the chorus:

“Give me somethin’ that burns like her, give me somethin’ that hurts like heaven.”

Burns Like Her shows off a side of Randall we haven’t seen previously. While King has made a name for himself by consistently having one of the purest Texas country sounds in the industry, Burns Like Her mixes in some elements of a more mainstream sound that we haven’t heard from him before. The production still has a classic feel to it with a bit more polish, similar to something you would expect from Jon Pardi or Parker McCollum.

For fans that have been waiting on Randall to make that jump onto the mainstream scene, this might be the sound that resonates with a broader audience and helps catapult him to being a household name. Guys like Cody Johnson have made the jump from the Texas scene to mainstream country in recent years, and Randall is well on his way to joining that group, without selling out.

The surprise release figures to tie in to Randall’s upcoming album. While we don’t have an official release date yet, King says to expect his sophomore record sometime this fall, which is a follow up to his 2022 debut album, Shot Glass, featuring fan favorites Hey Cowgirl and You In A Honky Tonk.

Just last month, King released a cover of Alan Jackson’s The One You’re Waiting On, as well as another single Hard To Be Humble.

King is currently touring in Europe as part of Jon Pardi’s “Mr. Saturday Night” tour, having recently played three shows in the United Kingdom before moving on to several shows throughout Germany.
