Fresh off of the release of his fifth studio album, American Son, back in August and his Red Rocks debut over the weekend, Colby Acuff is back with a brand-new EP, a collaboration with OurVinyl.
For those unfamiliar with OurVinyl, they’re a production company best known for capturing live performances of the best independent country artists working today. Collaborating with everyone from Tyler Childers and Flatland Cavalry to Charley Crockett and Billy Strings, they’ve captured some of the best reimaginings of the aforementioned artist’s songs to date.
Acuff took to Instagram on October 10th to announce the collaboration’s release.
The EP contains four songs including a reimagining of Acuff’s breakout hit, “If I Were the Devil,” as well as a brand new track, “Linda.”
As for “Linda,” the brand new song once again proves why Acuff is one of the best songwriters out there today. As a character piece depicting the life of an 85-year-old diner worker, Acuff paints an incredibly rich narrative focusing on small acts of kindness. Feeling very reminiscent of the songs penned by John Prine and Nicholas Jamerson, “Linda” makes you feel like you’re sitting next to Acuff while he recalls this perspective-changing story.
Rounding out the EP are fantastic acoustic versions of his 2021 hit, “When I See You Again” and the title track of his debut album, “Life of a Rolling Stone.”
