A Promoter Who Once Said Zach Top “Sucks” Is Now Claiming He Will Be The “Face of Country Music” and The Timing Couldn’t Be More Laughable

    The switch up is crazy.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Zach Top is on his way to becoming one of the biggest stars in the genre. Being a harbinger of the classic 90’s country sound that so many crave today, the Washington native has been making waves across the internet all year.

Between his newly-announced Cold Beer & Country Music tour, his first entries on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with “I Never Lie” and “Sounds Like the Radio” and his continuing momentum on both social media and streaming, it seems like Top is here to stay for a long while.

However, apparently not everyone was as keen on Top and his future in the genre. Fellow country artist, Cody Cozz, took to TikTok on Monday to share a story about an encounter with an unnamed promoter, noting how the promoter thought the “Sounds Like the Radio” singer “sucked” and he wasn’t going to make it in the business.

In the video, Cozz noted that he attended Top’s show back in 2020 during the heart of COVID-19 where Top sold roughly 30 tickets due to the restrictions present at the venue due to the pandemic. At the show, he claimed that he struck up a conversation with the promoter who booked Top, and Cozz said it went in a weird direction, “The promoter that I was standing next to at the time straight up said, point blank, ‘This guy sucks. He’s not gonna make it.'”

However, the story didn’t end there. Later, Cozz pointed out that the same unnamed promoter recently took to Instagram and posted on his story, saying, “Zach Top will be the face of country music. Mark my words.”

While it’s clearly a hot take (one that I personally strongly disagree with), everyone’s entitled to their opinion. With that being said, the switch up is pretty crazy. I’m sure there are some people who genuinely don’t like Top’s music for valid reasons, he might not be their preferred style, his dedication to the 90’s sound may come across as cheesy or they simply don’t care for his voice. However, claiming that a talented musician such as Top “sucks” before switching up and claiming that he’s going to be the face of country music just four years later is laughable.
