You can never win on the internet.
After appearing at this year’s CMA Fest and performing a six-song set that included hits such as “We Don’t Fight Anymore” and “I Hope Your Happy Now,” Carly Pearce took to Instagram on Monday to post photos from the festival.
All the posts seemed like your post-festival affair with Pearce uploading images of her on stage, as well as a photo with fellow musicians such as HARDY. However, the first picture of the post sparked some controversy in the comments.
Though it’s fairly obvious that Pearce is standing in a parking spot with the numbers “668” with a heavily faded “8” at the end of the spot, it still didn’t stop commenters from accusing the “Every Little Thing” singer of promoting Satanic imagery through the falsely labeled “666” on the ground.
Pearce received a few comments on the Instagram post questioning the imagery with one comment reading, “The obvious 666..? Disappointing.”
Pearce cleared the air on social media last night, assuring followers that she is a devout Christian and that the spot did, in fact, read “668,” saying, “I’ve seen too many comments about this being some sort of ‘hint’ towards 666 or satan to not comment. First of all, this was the parking spot for my tour bus at CMA fest & I believe it is 668. I am a devout Christian who takes PRIDE in using my platform to point people towards JESUS. So, for anyone wondering… there are absolutely ZERO underlying messages except a girl excited to be playing the big stage.”
Like many controversies on the internet these days, it seems like this was a case people jumping to conclusions without taking a second to think.
