Back in 2020, Garth Brooks was being honored by the Library of Congress for the Gershwin Prize award and the ceremony featured performances from Keith Urban, Lee Brice, wife Trisha Yearwood, and the legendary Chris Stapleton.
Stapleton performed Garth’s 1991 hit (and my personal favorite song from GB) “Shameless.” While Garth’s version became insanely popular, landing the singer his 7th No. 1, anything Chris Stapleton puts his voice on is Country at its best. Hell, even Garth knows that, based on the tears shed at the end of the performance.
To be fair, calling Stapleton’s performance a Garth Brooks cover is a little misleading, considering his version was a cover as well. Shameless was originally written by Billy Joel and first recorded in 1989. You’re welcome for that little fun fact. Nonetheless, I’ve really only known the GB version for most of my life.
Check out Chris Stapleton’s performance below and prepare to get the chill bumps.
