Prepare to get in your feels.
We all know that Chris Young has arguably one of the best voices to ever exist in Country, whether you’re a fan of his music or not.
Back in 2015, he released his fifth studio album, “I’m Comin’ Over,” for which he co-wrote nine of the 11 tracks. The album produced three singles including the title track, “Think Of You,” a duet with Cassadee Pope, and “Sober Saturday Night,” Chris Young’s eighth No. 1 at the time.
One song, however, that SHOULD’VE been a radio single, is “I Know A Guy.”
At the time, Chris started to move in a different direction with his music. “I’m Comin’ Over” was a massive single that was reminiscent of “Tomorrow,” but just a little more poppier and mainstream sounding. Still, it was a solid sound for him.
Since then, I feel he’s gone in a direction that doesn’t suit his vocal skillset as well but there’s still no denying he’s got one of the most recognizable tones in the genre.
With that said, I Know A Guy is the all-around perfect Country song to be played on radio, especially in 2015 at the height of “bro-country.” The story-telling evolves from him knowing a guy who can help if your car breaks down or having a contact he could call if you needed some extra part-time work, into him being the guy that’s lost the girl he still wishes he had.
Written by Benjy Davis and Brett Tyler, the lyrics are phenomenal, as well as the more traditional leaning sound and Chris Young’s honest vocal delivery.
