Kameron Marlowe Releases Ode to His Home State In New Single “Tennessee Don’t Mind”

    This man just doesn’t miss.

On Friday, Kameron Marlowe released his latest single, “Tennessee Don’t Mind,” a heartfelt love letter to the Volunteer State he grew up in. Marlowe, one of the hottest up and coming names in country music, announced the release on TikTok earlier this week:

Written by Charles Kelley and Daniel Tashian, the song takes on a triple meaning of sorts. On the surface, the lyrics show a love for Marlowe’s home state, which he says is always there for him when he needs to come back home.

At the same time, Marlowe tells this story in a way that could also be interpreted as being about a woman that he keeps coming back to, with lines like “she can always lead me home, like a star in the southern sky.”

Beyond the double meaning, Marlowe leaves further hints that his references to Tennessee extend past it being his home and alludes to the state’s long history as the center of country music. In a statement referring to the song, Marlowe said:

“To me, Tennessee in this instance really represents Music City. There is a give and take with chasing this dream, and the past two years have been a whirlwind. There’s a lot of ‘life’ we miss out on being on the road – something no one prepares you for. I feel the most at home on the road and sometimes that’s the scary part. The music just consumes you and sometimes it’s hard to get out of your own head.”

From a production standpoint, Marlowe continues to excel. Despite being from Tennessee, his music has a certain western energy to it, and that continues to be present here. Plenty of Twang and electric guitar accent his smoky voice well, and they work together to give him a sound that wouldn’t feel out of place in Texas.

Marlowe exists in a space somewhere between classic country and a more modern sound with broader mainstream appeal, and that is a space that has spawned some of the biggest country acts on the planet today. There are few artists that can get play in Honky Tonks and Targets, but Marlowe is well on his way to joining that exclusive company.

“Tennessee Don’t Mind” marks the second single release from Marlowe since his debut album We Were Cowboys in 2022, following “I Can Lie (The Truth Is)” earlier this year. Marlowe was also featured on “Fix You Too” from the deluxe version of Megan Moroney‘s album Lucky.

We Were Cowboys, released by Sony Music Nashville, saw immediate success, launching his hit “Giving You Up” to RIAA Certified Platinum status. While there is no official announcement of a sophomore album yet, the release of two singles in less than four months may be a hint to a full length project in the near future.

Marlowe Kicked off his headlining “I Can Lie” tour last week with two sold out shows in California. The 13 stop tour features support from Elvie Shane, Matt Schuster, and James McNair.
