Back in 2011, Luke Bryan dropped one of the most popular albums of the year (and arguably his biggest album to date) “Tailgates and Tanlines.”
One of the singles that was played everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE, was Luke’s “Country Girl (Shake It For Me). Jason Aldean had entered the Country music scene a few years earlier so at that point, Luke was one of the openers for Aldean on the “My Kinda Party” tour and in 2012 and I remember having to pick up a few extra shifts at the Food Lion just to be able to afford lawn tickets.
The other opener on that tour was none other than American Idol contestant, Lauren Alaina. It took Lauren a lot more time than expected to become a household name in the genre but fast forwarding 11 years later, things have kind of came full circle.
Alaina recently teamed up with Lainey Wilson for a collaboration and ode to their “ASSets,” titled “Thicc As Thieves.” At the end of the song, she samples LB’s “Country Girl” and recently admitted she asked for “forgiveness” instead of “permission.”
In a recent interview with Sirius XM, Lauren says she “snuck in” the song and later FaceTimed with Luke to check if it was okay. Since then, Luke has even gone as far as saying he’s “very flattered.”
“To put someone else’s song in your song, you have to ask them for permission. I recorded it and asked for forgiveness.” She also went on to say – “I’m like a little sister to him. I don’t really know his relationship with Lainey but I know he’s got to be like ‘how am I gonna talk about Lauren’s song?'”
