Fresh off of his headlining set at Bonnaro Music Festival last night which featured a surprise appearance with Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs has added a staggering 34 brand new Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certifications this morning.
Combs, who has been nothing short of a powerhouse in the age of streaming, has now become the first country artist ever to receive four seperate certified diamond songs with his 2018 single, “She Got The Best of Me,” being certified diamond today. This breaks his previous record of three songs which he achieved last year.
“She Got the Best of Me” now joins “Beautiful Crazy (14x), “When It Rains It Pours” (12x) and “Hurricane” (11x) as the North Carolina native’s four songs to sell over 10 million units.
This acheivement comes just months after Combs became the first country artist in history to have two seperate songs (“When It Rains It Pours” and “Beautiful Crazy”) surpass over one billion streams on Spotify.
In case you weren’t aware; when an artist receives a gold certification, it means the single or album has sold at least 500,000 units since its release, while a platinum cert means it has sold at least 1 million. As for diamond, a song or record must sell 10 million units. Further diving into what constitutes a unit, one paid download or 150 on-demand streams of a given song will count towards a unit sold.
Other notable certifications for the 35-year-old singer/songwriter include his Grammy-nominated cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” going 7x platinum, his boot-stomper, “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” going 8x platinum and his debut album, This One’s For You, going 7x platinum.
With today’s certifications, Combs is now the second highest-selling country artist in RIAA history behind Garth Brooks, selling a total of 152.5 million total units.
