“Made A Lotta Money Doing It Too” – HARDY Claps Back At Comment Calling His Music “Vaguely Country” And “Pop Music With A Spare Banjo”

Hardy did not come to play in the comment section.

The Mississippi native recently opened up on The Human School Podcast about his last two albums and what’s to come for his next era. The singer-songwriter, who’s not only had an impressive solo career, is also the mastermind behind many big tracks penned in the Nashville scene for artists like Morgan Wallen, Florida Georgia Line, Blake Shelton, etc.

He’s also no stranger to blending genres, building his own discography on a fusion of country and rock, exemplified in his heavier metal-esque 2024 album, Quit!! followed by 2025’s fittingly named Country! Country! as well as his experimental 2023 the mockingbird & THE CROW album, which showcased the crossover of both sounds.

Very candidly, the 35-year-old opened up to host Miles Adcox, sharing that while Quit!! accomplished milestones like leading to his biggest tour yet and achieving a personal goal of placing on the rock charts, it ultimately flopped in the country scene. Hence, why he felt a lot of internal pressure to reestablish himself with Country! Country!.

This time around, as Hardy prepares to release his fifth official studio album, the focus will be on neither genre but rather continue to break the mold with him describing it as “crazier than anything else I’ve ever done,” adding, “it’s gonna be extremely unpredictable.” As quoted on Country Chord’s Instagram post, he revealed, “I did a rock record…and now I did a country record…I’m not doing that anymore. Hardy Records is just what it’s gonna be from now on.”

One comment sounded off underneath our post, calling out Hardy for his fluid sound, “So it’s gonna be pop music with a spare banjo to make it sound vaguely ‘country” Because that’s what Hardy’s been cowriting and making for decades now.”

In true hilarious Hardy fashion, he jabbed back with, “made a lotta money doing it too.” Not giving a care in the world about the backhanded callout, Hardy confidently stood by his 20+ number one hits combined from his solo and songwriting career.

He also jokingly confirmed a rap track to come in the comments, replying to Ernest’s plea, “wanna drop a rap song with me,” with a simple “yes.” While no official release date has been teased for what uniquely “Hardy” project is to come next, who knows, it could apparently be anything from an Ernest trap beat to a storytelling country classic like his most recent Wallen, Eric Church, and Tim McGraw collab, “McArthur.”

In the meantime, he will also continue out on his coinciding Country! Country! Tour, which started up this past February and will continue throughout the summer, wrapping up on August 21 in Texas.
