After forming one of the most surprising bonds in country music over the past year, Kenny Chesney and Megan Moroney have seemingly been inseparable. In addition to touring extensively together in 2024, the pair have also been seen spending time together off of the stage, singing karaoke and even launching Chesney’s TikTok account.

Due to their prominent friendship, many have speculated when the two would release a song together, and it looks like the speculation has finally become a reality.

Minutes ago, Moroney took to Instagram to announce that their brand new song, titled, “You Had To Be There,” will release next Friday, May 9th.

In the Instagram post, the “Tennessee Orange” singer shared multiple pictures with Chensey throughout the past year along with a digital ticket to his 2018 show in Atlanta on his Trip Around the Sun Tour, making the song’s release a full-circle moment for Moroney.

Chesney would later comment, saying, “As far as I know this is the first song anyone has written for me . Thank you Megan. I love ya 💙 🌴“

As previously mentioned, the pair have become incredibly close over the past year. With Moroney spending a majority of the summer of 2024 on the road with Chesney on his Sun Goes Down Tour, it’s clear that the future Country Music Hall of Famer has viewed Moroney as one of the brightest stars in the genre today.

During their closing show in Foxborough back in August, Chesney reflected on the time they spent on the road throughout 2024, “It has been our pleasure to be on the road. I’m going to talk about this all weekend. Like I said, I wasn’t going to do this till maybe tomorrow night or Sunday, but Megan not only came out on the road with her songs but she came out on the road this summer with her heart.”

After Moroney’s CMA New Artist of the Year win back in November, he would once again praise the 27-year-old singer/songwriter, taking to Facebook to say, “Congratulations to Megan Moroney on your big win last night. We are all so happy for you and proud to watch you stand up there last night like a star that you are. This is just the beginning!! We love you Megan!!!”

Moroney is currently midway through her red-hot Am I Okay? Tour. Upcoming dates include the following:

    • 5/2 Houston, TX
    • 5/15 Minneapolis, MN
    • 5/16 Omaha, NE
    • 5/17 Oklahoma City, OK
    • 5/22 Washington, DC
    • 5/24 Uncasville, CT
    • 6/13 Richmond, VA
    • 6/14 Cleveland, OH
    • 6/20 Pittsburgh, PA
