Why hire a wedding band when your best friend is Megan Moroney?
Just a few days before heading out on her anticipated Cloud 9 tour, the Georgia native took on an even more important role this past weekend as the maid of honor in her best friend, Natalie King’s, wedding. Moroney, one of this year’s ACM Entertainer of the Year nominees, skipped out on the Sunday, May 17 show in Las Vegas to join the bride-to-be at her destination wedding in Turks and Caicos.
The two bulldogs who met at the University of Georgia over ten years ago finally got to have their ultimate full-circle moment at the Memorial Day Weekend ceremony, with the country superstar, of course, dedicating a song throughout the night. Now, obviously, being able to say that your three-time number one hit maker best friend sang at your wedding is a pretty cool flex, but the performance was certainly a tear-jerker with the song meaning so much more.
Moroney sang her 2021 debut single, “Wonder,” which, despite three highly successful albums, remains a standout fan favorite from her discography. Yielding over 128 million streams on Spotify alone, making it her fourth most-streamed song on the platform, it was actually originally inspired by the now “Mrs. Harp’s” toxic college relationship.
Moroney wrote the track after witnessing her best friend argue with her then-boyfriend, leading to the message that you shouldn’t have to “wonder” whether someone loves you or is the right one. Sure enough, the girl behind the song found out for herself that “It ain’t always gotta be lightnin’ and thunder.”
Preciously singing the song for the happy couple at the reception with her signature sparkly silver guitar, the “Tennessee Orange” singer even changed the lyrics to, “he don’t make Nat wonder, she shouldn’t have to wonder,” which received a well-deserved cheer from friends and family in the audience. Following her short intermission, she finished her performance, hilariously announcing to everyone, “Ok the dance party starts again, starting now.”
Transitioning from Maid of Honor to world-wide touring country music superstar, Moroney will kickstart her 2026 headlining tour this Friday, May 9, in Columbus, Ohio. Her 43 stops nationwide, throughout Europe, and the United Kingdom will wrap up later in the fall on October 1 in Belfast.
