After months of speculation, cryptic social media posts and sporadic single releases, Morgan Wallen sent the internet into a frenzy this morning by announcing that his fourth studio album, I’m The Problem, is officially slated for a May 16th release date. The record will follow in its predecessor’s footsteps, Dangerous: The Double Album and One Thing At a Time, and contain a mammoth 37 tracks, as revealed by Apple Music tonight.
Along with the release date, the “Last Night” singer revealed that two brand-new songs, the previously-teased “Just In Case” and “I’m A Little Crazy,” will be dropping at midnight:
In a press release, Wallen noted how he’s taken nearly a year to reflect on his past mistakes and where he’s at in his life before realizing that he had to make a change, “I have been a problem, for sure, and I’ve got no problem admitting that. But there are other sides to me as well. I’ve spent the last 11 months really trying to figure out, ‘Do I still want to be that problem? Is it time to move past that phase in my life?’ I think it probably is, and this might be the last time I get a chance to honestly say it.”
Written by HARDY, along with Jameson Rodgers, Hunter Phelps and Smith Ahnquist, “I’m A Little Crazy” will serve as the album’s closer and sees the 31-year-old singer/songwriter reflecting on not only the state of the world but himself as well. Using an incredibly simple, stripped-down production, Wallen proclaims how he’s “a little crazy, but the world’s insane.” Though there will be plenty of songs to choose from on this gigantic record, “I’m A Little Crazy” is already looking like a standout.
As for, “Just In Case,” it feels like a very safe release from the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year. Relying on a soft, R&B-inspired production, Wallen plays with the idea of not falling in love “just in case” his ex will make her way back into his life. Though it’s too early to judge, the track already feels like it’ll be outshined by the likes of “Smile,” “I’m The Problem” and the other 33 songs present on the record.
In addition to the new record, Wallen will also be hitting the road this summer on the I’m The Problem Tour along with Miranda Lambert, Koe Wetzel and more. Hitting 10 cities on back-to-back nights, the “Whiskey Glasses” singer will visit the likes of Houston, Seattle and Foxborough throughout the summer.
