The Internet Reacts To Beyoncé Winning Best Country Album At The 2025 Grammy Awards

On a star-studded Grammy night in Los Angeles that saw Sierra Ferrell sweep with four wins for Best Americana Album for Trail of Flowers, Best American Roots Song/Best Americana Performance for “American Dreaming” and Best American Roots Performance for “Lighthouse,” there was undoubtedly a lot of celebrations going on in country/Americana community. Couple that with another win for Chris Stapleton with Best Country Song (“It Takes A Woman”), and it seemed like a perfect night.

The perfect night came to an end for many country fans, however, when Beyoncé took home the most prestigious country award of the night, Best Country Album, for Cowboy Carter. Infamously, Beyoncé herself stated that the project was not inherently a country record, “THIS AIN’T A COUNTRY ALBUM. THIS IS A ‘BEYONCÉ’ ALBUM.”

Regardless of whether or not Cowboy Carter is truly “country,” (I would hardly call it country, just like a majority of the songs on the radio), it won, and fans of the genre were not having it.

Here are some of the best reactions on X.

I’m sorry, but Beyoncé is not a country singer pic.twitter.com/h9a30wocsT

It’s crazy to me how the recording academy is shoving this album down our throats while someone like Post Malone who has been making diamond records for years now gets snubbed for every award he’s up for

So sad for the real country singers who put their whole lives into their music with their whole heart and soul😢😢😢

    — Eileen Meagher (@mywife1) February 3, 2025

Just because she had a cowboy hat on and cowboy in the name of the album doesn’t make it a country project.

Beyonce winning "Best Country Album" at The Grammys is pretty much all you need to know about The Grammys and the current state of country music.

Even Dylan Scott weighed in on Beyoncé’s win, leaving a comment on CMT’s Instagram post announcing Cowboy Carter’s Best Country Album nod.

We took to Instagram ourselves to post some of the reactions around the internet, and our comment section was not happy about the win either:

Keep in mind, the Grammy’s are not the absolute authority on whether or not an artist or album is great. Hell, all-time greats like Jimi Hendrix, Tupac, Queen, Toby Keith and a laundry list of other artists have never even won a Grammy. It doesn’t make the win any less egregious, but it’s food for thought.
