Twenty weeks (and counting) atop the Billboard Hot 100, one of the most successful albums of 2026, well over 32 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone…and people are still calling Ella Langley “up-and-coming?” Yeah… okay.
I’ve seen quite a few headlines circulating on the internet, touching on the country music superstar’s “insane glow-up” thanks to a resurfaced TikTok of her doing a “get ready with me” from 2022. However, the drastic reactions from fans shocked by Langley’s transformation from a fresh-faced artist in her early 20s with no bangs to the polished onstage persona she has today are nothing new.
It’s a never-ending topic of conversation that people love to gawk at, and all I’ve gotta say is, Lord, am I glad I’m not famous because God only knows what kinds of things the internet would say to my “no-makeup” days. While sure there’s no denying that Langley’s look has evolved over the years, it never fails to amaze me how far people blow the transformation out of proportion, let alone the fact that it’s now become a newsworthy topic.
One of the latest publications to comment on the trend of digging into Langley’s past to showcase her evolution is none other than the New York Post. Yesterday, they took to social media to highlight two images side by side of a younger Langley without any makeup in poor lighting and a baggy T-shirt, followed by a slide of one of her more recent bronzed post-photo-shoot selfies.
As for the headline, they decided to go with “Up-and-coming country star is unrecognizable in viral throwback video 3 years before fame,” as if the whole world isn’t well aware of Langley’s name by now and can’t tell from the 3-year-old photos that it’s her. Considering the internet is enamored by the Langley effect, with everyone and their mother finding a way to talk about the “Choosin’ Texas” singer (hence why the NY Post probably posted this in the first place), many users took to the comment section, appalled at the headline.
The other half of angry commenters also chimed in on the very simple factors behind Langley’s apparent “unrecognizability” in her old videos versus her 27-year-old look, namely the fact that A. she grew up, B. her makeup routine changed, C. she lost a little weight, and D. bangs change more about a woman’s appearance than you’d think. Considering she’s also gone from filming makeup tutorials in her bedroom to now having a personal stylist and makeup and hair artist, that always helps too:
At least her resurfaced TikToks offer a pretty cool walk down memory lane, looks aside, showing the then-freshly 23-year-old Alabama native doing her own glam before opening for country music duo Big & Rich. And for anyone who’s caught Langley’s recent TikTok Lives while getting her makeup done, if anything, this throwback proves her down-to-earth personality really hasn’t changed all that much over the years, aside from maybe a little added confidence.
The far-from “up-and-coming” starlet is just three weeks away from conquering the all-time record for the longest-running No.1 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 with her summer anthem “Choosin’ Texas” challenging Mariah Carey’s reigning holiday tune, “All I Want For Christmas.” She’ll also return to the stage next week as she continues on her acclaimed 2026 Dandelion tour, dominating stages across the country, including Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on Thursday, Sept 10.
