Yesterday morning, Cody Johnson released the official music video for his latest single, “Dirt Cheap,” and if it don’t make you cry, it’ll at least give you the chill bumps.
Written solely by Josh Phillips, “Dirt Cheap” tells the powerful story of a man who won’t sell his land for some subdivision to be built where he and his wife raised their daughter. Even though there’s a lot of money on the table, the man values the memories created on his piece of land more than the wealth he’d inherit for selling it.
While such a moving story on its own, the music video directed by Dustin Haney simply, yet powerfully brings the song to life and makes you understand just exactly why the land isn’t for sale. For those who would be tempted by the money, you can’t help but respect the old man for his decision after all the other farmers nearby caved and sold.
“Everything that is important to me is here.”
“Dirt Cheap” is CoJo’s second single off his most recent album, “Leather,” and was actually originally intended to be cut by Luke Combs. (You can read that story here). It is currently in the top ten on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, and I’d be absolutely shocked if it didn’t rise to the top spot here soon.
