This past Friday, Megan Moroney released a live acoustic performance video of “Traitor Joe” to her official Youtube channel.
The song, which is one of my personal favorites from her thus far, was featured on her debut studio album, “Lucky,” that dropped earlier this year on May 5th and includes her first ever #1 song at Country radio, Tennessee Orange.
Written by Megan, along with Ben Williams, Casey Brown and Parker Welling, Traitor Joe is one of the more interesting songs off the 13-track record. It cleverly tells the story of a girl trying to warn the titular, Joe, that she’s caught his girlfriend being unfaithful. There’s just one more tiny little thing… she’s also trying to get him to be with her.
Megan, at this point in her short career, is no stranger to releasing songs with fun and witty wordplay, but it’s on tracks such as Traitor Joe, and even Sleep On My Side, where it really shines.
In the beginning of the video, Megan gives a little insight into the writing process of Traitor Joe and how the original concept of the song was tweaked:
“When I took it into the writers room, I was like, I have this idea we’re gonna make Joe the bad guy or whatever. My co-writer was like ‘what if she’s a traitor and you want Joe?”
Although I have almost zero complaints about the production on Lucky as a whole, I also have a soft spot for acoustic renditions and Megan absolutely crushes it, per usual.
