I have so many questions.
On Tuesday Morgan Wallen shared a new ad for Ryl Tea, his line of sweet tea, to his Instagram featuring popular Barstool Sports comedian, Caleb Pressley.
Pressley’s inclusion might feel extremely random, but it doesn’t come out of nowhere. Wallen has appeared twice on Caleb’s popular “Sundae Conversation” series, garnering over 3 million views on YouTube between the two videos and spawning several viral clips in the process.
In the video Wallen steps into Pressley’s “barbershop” for a haircut while the internet personality pokes fun at the “Last Night” singer about several topics, including the controversial chopping off of his iconic mullet, as well as his struggles last summer with vocal soreness that caused him to cancel several shows.
The ad infers that it was Pressley who cut the mullet last year, to which he proclaims that “Everyone loved it,” much to Wallen’s chagrin. The pair then sit down, where Pressley ribs the singer about his vocal troubles before suggesting a new can design for the Tea in which Wallen’s name is crossed out and replaced with his own.
The ad is a bit bizarre, and I’m not quite sure what the point of it was. At no point do we see Wallen actually get his hair cut, so this could all just be a reference to last summer, or it could be a teaser that the mullet is making a return.
It’s also unclear how Pressley plays into all of this. Will he be doing more collaboration with the brand? Perhaps there is a third appearance coming from Wallen on the “Sundae Conversation?” Is any of this tied into the recent announcement of Wallen’s massive Broadway bar in Nashville?
It is all so strange, and it leaves me with more questions than when we started. It feels like there is more to this story than we’re seeing so far, but there weren’t any obvious hints or clues as to what that could be. For now we’ll just laugh along and keep our eyes open for whatever the superstar has in store next.
