Song of the Summer.
After what felt like months of teasers and snippets, Post Malone has finally released his first-ever country song, “I Had Some Help,” featuring none other than Morgan Wallen.
After the pair debuted the song live at Stagecoach on April 28, everyone knew that its release was seemingly coming any day.
Rumors of a May 10 release date were swirling when local San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area radio station, KBAY Country, featured a video of the two on their Instagram account last week, announcing that the song will be added to their rotation on Wednesday, May 8th.
Flash forward to this Tuesday, May 7th, and Post officially announced the song’s release.
Along with the brand-new song, the duo collaborated on a brand-new music video which is directed by Chris Villa, a long-time collaborator with Post who has worked with a plethora of rap stars ranging from Kanye West and A$AP Rocky to Ice Spice and Lil Uzi Vert.
It’s clear that Villa understood what it took to blend the worlds of Post and Wallen together, setting the video at a classic dive bar while simultaneously using rap video elements such as singing directly into the camera. It gives both rap and country fans a sense of familiarity while watching, bridging the gap seamlessly.
The pair were seen recording the video in Joshua Tree, California back on April 27th.
As for the song itself, you can argue all day about whether it is truly “country” or not, but one thing is abundantly clear: it’s incredibly catchy. There is absolutely no doubt that “I Had Some Help” is going to be a smash hit for the duo.
The track is simply fun, providing pretty much everything you would want from a summer song: a breezy runtime, some smooth vocals from Post and Wallen and most importantly, an infectious chorus.
