In preparation for his performance at Stagecoach on Saturday, April 27, Post Malone took to Instagram to share a clip of him practicing Garth Brooks’ legendary 1990 hit, “Friends in Low Places.”
“Friends in Low Places,” despite still not being available to stream on any major streaming services other than Amazon Music (Thanks, Garth), still remains one of the most popular country songs of all time, being covered nearly everywhere from your local dive bar to the Opry.
This cover is the last in a long line of country teasers the 28-year-old singer/songwriter has posted over the past few months. From his performance with Morgan Wallen and HARDY at the CMA Awards, his photos in the studio with both Wallen and Luke Combs and his recent tease of a brand-new country song, it seems as if an official country release from the “Congratulations” singer is coming any day now.
While it’s obvious that he is clearly messing around in the video, attempting (and somewhat failing) to hit the low notes of “Friends in Low Places,” it’s abundantly clear he has a deep love and respect for the song and the genre itself.
It’s been a well-known secret that Post is one of the most versatile artists in music right now, being able to perform rap, pop, alternative and now country tunes effortlessly. Despite the joking nature of this Reel, Malone’s vocal talent still shines on his vocal run on “Slip on down to the Oasis” here.
