The Duo we didn’t know we needed.
After the release of his debut country album, F 1-Trillion, which featured a plethora of today’s biggest country stars, many (myself included) were wondering whether Post Malone would hang up his cowboy hat at the end of 2024. Then came the announcement of another headlining tour featuring Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell, set to kick off in April of 2025 in Indio, California.
And last night, Post Malone doubled down on his love for classic country and proved he ain’t leavin’ the genre any time soon when he brought out Zach Top to perform a cover of Vince Gill’s #1 hit, “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away” at Wild Horses Fest in San Diego.
“Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away” was written by Vince himself, along with Pete Wagner, and was released in 1992 as the second single off his fifth studio album, “I Still Believe In You.” It went on to become his second number 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart, and is currently certified gold by the RIAA.
Post Malone and Zach Top were both apart of Wild Horses lineup, making it a no-brainer for the two to team up together. To no one’s surprise, the duo took the time to express their love for 90’s country and the crowd LOVED it.
Post is one of the most successful artists in the streaming age with a record-breaking nine certified diamond songs by the RIAA, and unlike many artists who attempt to crossover into country music, the genre’s fans have fully embraced the “I Fall Apart” singer and welcomed him with open arms.
And it’s no secret (or at least it shouldn’t be anyway), that Zach Top is emerging himself as one of the biggest country artists in the genre right now. While Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan overwhelmingly dominate streaming numbers, Top is bringing back that traditional 80’s and 90’s sound country music fans clearly still crave, and doing it extremely well I might add.
So, without further ado, check out Top and Posty’s cover of “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away” here:
