Finally, there’s some men in this world with a little bit of self-awareness.
On today’s episode of This Past Weekend hosted by comedian Theo Von, he and country music star Trace Adkins brought up a very important, controversial topic that we need to settle once and for all: Men wearing open-toed shoes.
I get that it’s summer and sandals and flip-flops are the go-to beach uniform, but outside of that realm, I don’t want to see your dogs out. Apparently, neither do Von nor Adkins, who were reminded of the pet peeve after Von jokingly asked if Adkins’ good friend and “Hillbilly Bone” collaborator, Blake Shelton, has a male sandal collection.
For those who don’t know, Shelton has been a longtime flip-flop hater, and Von’s attempt at starting a rumor spurred a hilarious conversation between the two. Appalled at the statement, the “Honkydonk Badonkadonk” singer replied to Von’s rumor, saying, “I’m gonna stop being friends with him if it’s true cause Blake’s always said you can’t trust a guy wearing flip-flops or sandals.” (Amen to that!)
Adkins then explained that Blake’s theory is, “you can’t ever trust a guy wearing flip-flops or sandals because if you get stuck, he ain’t going to help push you out. A guy wearing sandals is not hardly going to help you do anything.” He hilariously added, “he’s gonna get his toes banged up, so he’s not gonna help you do anything. You know, he’s not even wearing shoes. He’s not gonna run in a house and save children when the house is on fire.”
In Adkins’ eyes, if he sees a man with his tootsies out, “he’s worthless. He’s a worthless male.” The Louisiana native got pretty heated with his shoe rant, with Von also piping in, saying that if you end up getting sunburned feet because you’re wearing sandals, you’re basically screwed: “If you can’t put shoes on and go to work because the tops of your feet are sunburned then…” and Adkins finishing his sentence, “you’re not helping society at all.”
So there you have it, folks, according to Shelton, Von, and most definitely Adkins, if you’re of the male species, it’s time to throw your flip-flops, slides, and any sort of hiking sandal in the TRASH.
