What a duo.
It’s no stretch to say that Zach Top and Riley Green have been two of the hottest names in country music in 2024. With Top firmly placing himself as a premier act with the release of his debut album, Cold Beer & Country Music and Green continuing his rise to superstardom off of the backs of “Worst Way,” “Jesus Saves” and his current #1 single with Ella Langley, “you look like you love me,” the pair have had as good of a year that any two artists can ask for.
Though not on tour together, Green surprised the audience last night at his show in Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas and brought out Top to perform an acoustic medley of classic country songs.
After bringing out Top to the opening riff of his current single, “I Never Lie,” Green immediately launched into a cover of Tracy Lawerence’s 1996 #1 hit, “Time Marches On” with the “Sounds Like The Radio” singer quickly following in his lead. After finishing the short cover, Green remarked that he was “just making sure he was ready,” before launching into an extended cover of Merle Haggard’s classic, “Mama Tried.”
Though it’s on a separate video from TikTok user, mrs.heather.o, it seems as if the duo immediately launched into a full cover of Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” to finish the medley.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that they absolutely nailed each and every one of the songs in the medley. With Top being the newly-crowned king of 90s country in the mainstream and Green being arguably the most popular artist who’s consistently producing traditional country today, this pairing was a match made in heaven. We need a cover album from the two of them ASAP.
