Wyatt Flores Battles Lost Love In The Bitter-Cold With New Song, “Milwaukee”

Fresh off of his Opry debut, Wyatt Flores is back with another brand new song, Milwaukee.

After releasing his debut album, Life Lessons, back in November and a cover of The Fray’s How To Save A Life that was released to all streaming platforms in December, one could only assume the Please Don’t Go singer would take some time off between releases. Flores, however, decided to keep the momentum going after the critical success of Life Lessons.

Flores teased the song back on Jan. 9 on Instagram before officially announcing the song’s release this past Saturday when he took center stage at the Grand Ole Opry.

Milwaukee feels like a natural evolution of Flores’ music sonically while still keeping the core of what makes him stand out in today’s country landscape: his lyrics.

He opens the song with a verse that feels very reminiscent of Flatland Cavlary’s February Snow.

    “Somewhere in Milwaukee
    There’s snow covering concrete
And I still see you walking away. And I tried to say I’m sorry
    That frozen rain kept falling
And I couldn’t find the words make you stay”

What follows is a desperate plea for forgiveness after letting someone go. The way that Flores continuously builds off of the cold, desolate setpiece that he set up in the first verse is brilliant. He plays with the concept of being bitter from the cold while simultaneously trying to ease the pain that was left by his leaving. These verses crescendo into a poppy albeit extremely catchy chorus that is bound to play incredibly well at his live shows.

The final line of the chorus, “Please don’t hate my heart“ is such a simple yet powerful lyric that perfectly encapsulates everything that the song is built towards. It’s also an incredibly honest lyric that takes a realistic look at a broken relationship. The accountability of recognizing your faults while simultaneously pleading for forgiveness is a powerful one that is reminiscent of his song, 3/13.

Flores is currently on his Life Lessons tour which kicked off in Tampa, Florida on Thursday. Some of the upcoming dates are the following:

    • 1/27 Gainesville, FL
    • 1/30 Charleston, SC
    • 2/1 Columbia, SC
    • 2/2 Athens, GA
    • 2/3 Beech Mountain, NC
    • 2/8 Nashville, TN
    • 2/9 Pineville, KY
    • 2/10 Lexington, KY
