Post Malone going country has been teased for seemingly ages. From his cover of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” over a decade ago, to his covers of Sturgill Simpson’s “You Can Have The Crown” and Brad Paisley‘s “I’m Gonna Miss Her” with Dwight Yoakam’s band, to his most recent appearance with Morgan Wallen and HARDY at the 2023 CMA Awards, Malone has always flirted with the genre.
The 28-year-old singer/songwriter has also recently been pictured in the studio with Luke Combs and is actively writing with Morgan Wallen and ERNEST.
Today, Post has finally pulled the trigger and teased a brand new country song, seemingly titled, “Missing You Like This.”
As previously mentioned, Malone has been teasing going country for a while now. Back in June of 2022 in an interview with Howard Stern, he said, “To be honest, there’s nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album [to put] on YouTube.”
While I admittedly don’t think that this song is the most traditional country song ever recorded, I’m incredibly excited to see what Malone has to offer in a full song/record. Being a fan of him since his debut album, Stoney, I’ve always been of the opinion that he is one of the most versatile artists in all of music.
There’s truly not a genre that Malone can’t do well in, with many of his later records dabbling in rap, pop, alternative and even metal styles. While I don’t think that this teaser is an absolute home run, it officially opened the door for Malone to make his country debut.
As of writing, there is no official release date for the song or an album. Fans, however, have been clamoring for the “Circles” singer to release something country for ages.
