Good news Midland fans.
Today, the Grammy-nominated trio released a brand new song titled “Old Fashioned Feeling.” Serving as a despondent reflection of a past relationship, the tune plays off of the title, seemingly inferring that the narrator would rather have that old familiar feeling of his former lover’s presence again over the classic cocktail.
While the tune has all the elements of what has made Midland such a dynamic and unique group throughout the years, the trio (consisting of Cameron Daddy, Jess Carson & Mark Wystrach), decided to branch out from longtime producers Shane McAnally, Dan Huff, and Josh Osbourne, and teamed up with legendary producer, Dave Cobb (known for his work with Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson and more), for their first solo release since December of last year.
“Sometimes it feels good to go for a swim in the blues, have a sip of that fiery nostalgia and live in the memory of something that was once so sweet that’s now turned bitter. Lose yourself in this classic country cup of 80 proof soul with a back beat,” explains Midland. “It’s the sound of every dingy neon hazed bar room where you go to hide in plain sight.”
The new song, written by the trio as well as Josh Osborne and Matthew Dragstrem, was recorded at the historic Georgia Mae Studios in Savannah, GA, and also accompanied with a brand new music video, directed by Harper Smith (Hailey Whitters, John Mayer, etc.). The video finds the band on a golden-hued film set surrounded by showbiz chaos and a cast of hurried flappers, mimes, managers and actors.
Next month, Midland will also release a cover of Tom Petty’s classic “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” as part of the Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty album set to drop on June 21st via Big Machine Records.
