Sturgill Simpson Absolutely Shreds Alongside Tyler Childers While Performing “Whitehouse Road” at The Ryman [Watch]

Starting a petition for these Kentucky boys to record an official studio duet.

In the midst of a two-week residency at the legendary Ryman Auditorium back in 2018, Tyler Childers brought out fellow indie-country star Sturgill Simpson for a soulful rendition of “Whitehouse Road.”

Coming off of 2017’s “Purgatory,” the tune was a fan-favorite amongst the Childers faithful and is still one of the signature songs in his discography. While unfortunately Simpson doesn’t lend his voice to the song, he makes up for it by absolutely shredding on lead electric guitar, especially in the second half. Childers nails the the delivery at the mic, per usual.

The Kentucky natives have shared the stage a few times throughout the years and even planned a tour together in 2020 (cancelled due to COVID-19). Watching them side by side really makes you hope they’d consider pursuing that again sometime down the road.

It’s fascinating to look back at a performance like this, as these two artists are perhaps THE guys who introduced the mainstream indie-country movement. Not only that, knowing they’re sharing one of the most historically significant stages in all of music makes it that much cooler.
