Lord only knows how drunk you have to be to make a mix-up like this.
Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, or for the ladies, Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is pretty much the summation of how you’d expect an overzealous football player to act. While his counterpart, Jason Kelce, takes on the fatherly, mature yet still rambunctious role out of the two brothers, Travis has always tended to be the much more goofy, overgrown-toddler, golden retriever type of guy.
Beyond their love for football and their co-hosted New Heights Podcast, there’s one other thing the two brothers have in common: the ability to drink… A LOT. Imagine Travis’ recent viral courtside shot-gunning clip at the Knicks game next to his superstar girlfriend, and multiply that by twenty, and that’s what I imagine produced the insane story he recently shared.
During a live taping of the New Heights show in Los Angeles yesterday, June 15, the Chief’s player shared his “most embarrassing story,” which was heavily influenced by some alcohol in his blood system. He told the audience that a while back, he and some New York finance friends attended a music festival in the Hamptons, clarifying, “I’m thinking I’m gonna be around a bunch of guys in finance at this music festival, so I get up there, and I immediately start having some beverages, it’s kinda the Kelce way of going about things.”
He then hilariously sets the scene, “I get sh*t faced. Don’t even really know who’s performing at the concert. I’m just kinda up there like ‘Hey, you got any more tequila?” Now, for any music fan or lovers of a good margarita, this next part of the story would have any normal person immediately thinking of one celebrity in mind:
“A guy comes up and says, ‘Dude, Buffets here. He wants to meet you.’ I’m like, ‘Holy sh*t, that’s big money.’ I’m like, I am way too hammered to say hello to this guy and start talking finances.”
As for Kelce, inebriated and surrounded by his gang of finance gurus, he immediately thinks he’s about to meet multi-billionaire, top-notch investor, and former CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett. After chugging a water to sober up, he says, upon shaking Buffett’s hand, “We have the best conversation I’ve ever had in my life. The man is literally smiling from ear to ear. I’m thinking I’m about to be rich here soon.”
Then Buffett starts telling a story to Kelce about how he learned to play guitar for the first time, which truly should have been the first clue in his mind that he may have mixed up celebrities (and also, I KNOW Buffett had to be wearing one of his classic Hawaiian shirts at the time, which should have been another dead giveaway). Still, he continues, “I was like, right to his face, ‘No way! Warren Buffett plays guitar.'”
Buffett’s wide grin faded real quick, but luckily at that moment in time, the late singer was queued onto the stage to perform, to which he then serenaded the crowd with his 1977 career-defining staple, “Margaritaville.” Kelce took it like a champ, singing along from the side of the stage in the moment and now being able to laugh about the awkward encounter.
Finishing off his story, he admits, “I have an episode of face-blindness at least once a month, and that was me mistaking Jimmy Buffett, the late great, unbelievable Jimmy Buffett, for thinking Warren Buffett was gonna be at a music festival in the Hamptons.” Now, while I’m not defending Kelce and his atrocious mix-up for the music legend in the slightest, to be fair, after a few shots, you have to admit these two could be an easy mix-up… kind of.
